Windsong Properties’ Builder Story

Since 2003, Windsong Properties has set the Standard of Excellence for Active Adult Living in North Atlanta. The company was founded upon the idea that the transition from family home to empty nest should be an enjoyable and exciting experience, focused on improving Quality of Life. Windsong founders Mark Carruth and Steve Romeyn share more than three decades of building experience and a personal understanding of the unique needs and desires of the active adult homebuyer.

Steve Romeyn Co-Owner of Windsong Steve Romeyn, Managing Partner
Steve Romeyn has spent the last 30 years in Residential Development and Homebuilding in the metro Atlanta area, and brings a wealth of experience to the Active Adult communities market. As co-founder and co-owner of Windsong Properties, Steve handles the design, sales, and process improvement for the company. He regularly meets with customers to ensure that they receive the stylish, sophisticated homes and communities they are seeking. He enjoys getting to know Windsong Properties customers throughout the sales and building process, and designing homes to meet their specifications and desires. Certified Professional Homebuilder, Steve’s executive experience with regional builders has contributed significantly to the success of neighborhoods at Big Canoe, Brookhaven, and Country Club of the South. Steve and his wife, Carlyn, are enjoying their own Active Adult lifestyle as the parents of two grown daughters.
Mark Carruth, Co-Owner of Windsong Mark Carruth, Managing Partner
Mark Carruth is a third-generation homebuilder with more than three decades of construction management experience. A Certified Professional Homebuilder, Mark co-founded Windsong Properties and enjoys being part of a team of motivated, talented individuals who are dedicated to meeting the needs of Windsong’s Active Adult customers, and who have a passion for the jobs they do. Mark’s passion is building quality homes and creating long-term customer relationships with Windsong home buyers. Mark has built in the North Atlanta communities of Eagle Watch, Towne Lake Hills, Bentwater, Seven Hills, and Legacy Park. He and his wife have lived in the north Metro Atlanta area for 27 years. They have two adult children, and one grandchild.
Carrie Roeger, Operations Manager of Windsong Carrie Roeger, Operations Manager
Formerly the Marketing Manager, Carrie Roeger is now the Operations Manager for Windsong Properties. Carrie spent five years on active duty in the US Marine Corps. Upon completion of her service, Carrie earned a Bachelor degree in Finance at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Carrie has worked in purchasing and marketing and has a comprehensive knowledge of homebuilding, the active adult market, and Windsong Properties. She enjoys working with Windsong’s team of individuals who have a passion for providing quality housing for the Active Adult homebuyer. She lends her talents to Windsong by addressing the changes and challenges of a growing company. In her spare time, Carrie enjoys riding her motorcycle in the North Georgia mountains, and spending time with her husband, Ralph, and their daughter, Samantha.
Sharon Williams Accountant for Windsong Sharon Williams, Controller
Sharon Williams is Windsong’s Controller and a lifelong resident of Cherokee County where she lives with her recently graduated, teenage daughter. Sharon enjoys the excitement of growing with a young, successful company and addressing new challenges each day. Handling a variety of details that keep the company running, Sharon’s diligence and attention to detail is essential to the success of the organization. She looks forward to working with Windsong Properties homeowners when she handles their Homeowners’ Association payments and other accounting matters.
Jeff Shaw, Purchasing Manager of Windsong Jeff Shaw, Purchasing Manager
Jeff Shaw has 22 years of home building experience and will develop and maintain win/win relationships with the best contractors and suppliers in Atlanta to provide the best value to Windsong’s homebuyers. After graduating from Southern Tech with a bachelor’s degree in building construction, Jeff worked as a licensed residential and light commercial contractor. He has worked for multiple home builders, including Colony Homes, Forrest Homes, Choice Homes, Sharp Residential and Parker and Son General Contracting. His positions ranged from estimator, builder, area manager and project manager to vice president of purchasing and estimating. In order to help the company stay up-to-date on the latest in building, he will also research new technologies and products. A resident of Canton, Jeff is married with two children. His hobbies include watching his kids play sports, fishing and hunting.
Becky Knight, Purchasing and Operations Assistant at Windsong Becky Knight, Purchasing Assistant
Rebecca Knight brings an extensive background in new home construction office estimating and administrative support to the team, including experience in Accounts Payable, Bid Review, Project Cost Reporting, and more. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management from Kennesaw State University. Her professional development includes serving as Administrative Assistant and Estimator with C.W. Matthews Constructing Company (formerly APAC) in Marietta, Accounts Payable and Receivable professional with Devore and Johnson in Forest Park, and as Contracts Administrator with W.H. Bass Inc. in Johns Creek. Rebecca’s ability to review civil drawings, home plans, and site specifications provides new opportunities to both develop new and existing properties, and to work with homeowners and prospective home buyers to answer their questions. And her experience with cost estimating and bid review ensures cost effective approaches enhance the value and quality of each Windsong home.
Brian Alcott Brian Alcott, New Home Warranty Manager
After college, Brian entered the workforce as a code compliance officer with the City of Margate, Florida, giving him the opportunity to work with review committees and builders, and launching his career in the residential construction industry. Upon relocating to Georgia in 2004, he specialized in residential warranty work. Brian likes getting to know his clients and he says active adults tend to enjoy the more personalized attention. Brian has the opportunity to interact with Windsong homeowners to ensure all warranty work is completed to their satisfaction. He lives in Canton, GA, with his wife and two children.
Matt Benson Matt Benson, New Home Warranty Assistant
Working with Brian Alcott, Matt will serve Windsong homeowners with their new home warranty issues. Matt has always been interested in homebuilding and how things are constructed. His experience as a sales representative/warehouse manager with Timberland Flooring introduced him to homebuilding industry as a hardwood flooring supplier. He said that with Windsong Properties, he has found a homebuilder that is committed to quality and working with homebuyers to build a house that will fit their changing needs. Matt is excited to work for a customer service focused builder and he looks forward to working with Windsong homeowners in the warranty department to give them the best service and experience after closing possible. Matt earned a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Central Florida. He currently lives in Woodstock and has a 4 year old daughter.
Brian Stumpf Brian Stumpf, Warranty Technician
With a background in the building industry and law enforcement, Brian Stumpf brings a wealth of knowledge, an enjoyment of working with people, and the skill of working around challenges to the New Home Warranty Technician position at Windsong Properties. Brian was born in Spokane, Washington, but lived in the South since age four, when his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida. His father worked for the railroad industry, and the country relocated often, and settled in Georgia when Brian was 13. He attended four different high schools in Georgia, and graduated from Lassiter High School, then attended North Metro Technical College. He began his career in the homebuilding industry in 2003. Brian later enrolled in the Police Academy, and served as a certified police officer for six years. Working in the New Home Warranty role, Brian combines his experience of the new home industry, working with people, and addressing a unique set of challenges each day. When he is not at Windsong, he enjoys fishing and completing the items on his “Honey-Do” list. Brian and his wife, Michele live in Woodstock, and are the proud parents of two adult children.
Amy Ackerstein, Design Center Manager for Windsong Amy Ackerstein, Design Center Manager
Amy has dedicated her career to helping homeowners transform their floor plan into the one-of-a-kind retreat they are proud to call Home. Amy’s Design Center Management experience includes more than a decade with Ryland Homes, where she managed the Design Center and trained Ryland’s employees on design center selection. With her passion for and lifelong involvement in sports, Amy was inducted into the Columbus, Ohio, Jewish Community Center Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Bexley High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and was a nominee for the Big East Athlete of the Decade award. She has served as coach for the Lassiter Jr. Trojan feeder girls’ basketball teams, and the Georgia Bimmers AAU girls’ basketball team, as well as with an East Marietta 8th-12th grade girls’ team. A graduate of Syracuse University, Amy earned her B.S. in Advertising with a Concentration in Psychology, providing training that she calls upon both as a Design Center Manager and as a Community Volunteer.
Rayna Jepsen, Marketing Manager for Windsong Rayna Jepsen, Marketing Manager
In an industry in which professionals and customers all seem to come from “somewhere else,” Rayna Jepsen is a rare find: a native Georgian, who grew up in Cobb County and graduated from Sprayberry High School, before earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Arts at Georgia Southern University. Rayna’s marketing background includes extensive experience in the homebuilding industry, having served as Marketing Manager with Colony Homes and KB Home, as well as Steve Simpson Investments, before joining the Windsong team. A confirmed Parrothead, Rayna has attended at least one Jimmy Buffett concert every year for the past decade! She also enjoys sewing, camping, hiking, and SCUBA diving. Rayna lives in Acworth with her husband, Randy. She is a devoted aunt to three nephews and two nieces, and serves as a volunteer at their elementary school.
Davar Ashtin, CAD Operator for Windsong Properties Davar Ashtin, Architectural Project Coordinator
Davar is responsible for using his extensive knowledge to use computer software to create innovative designs for our communities. First receiving a master of science in architecture from IA University in Tehran, the capital of Iran, Davar then studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology. There, he earned a master of science in building construction and facility management in the winter of 2012. Davar has held multiple positions in the field. He has served as an architect/designer and project manager at Capital Design and Construction, Inc. in Atlanta and was also a part-time project assistant at Excel Capital Construction, Inc. in Atlanta. Davar holds certifications for international residential code and erosion and sediment control, level II. He belongs to the International Construction Engineers Organization, International Architects Society, Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and the International Code Council.
Alondra Guthrie, Accounting Assistant for Windsong Properties Alondra Guthrie, Accounting Assistant
Utah native Alondra Guthrie brings more than 30 years of bookkeeping experience – six of those in the construction industry – to her position as Accounting Assistant with Windsong Properties. Alondra earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting from Chattahoochee Technical College, and became a member of the American Association of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB), in 2012. AIPB enables her to stay abreast of the latest changes and best practices and procedures in her industry. She also is proficient in Microsoft Excel, and enjoys researching new techniques for spreadsheets, formats, and formulas in the Microsoft Excel Bible 2013. She and her husband have been married for more than 36 years, and are the proud parents of three grown children – two daughters and a son. The family has lived in Utah and New Orleans, Louisiana, and have called Georgia home since 1994. In 2015, they moved to Ball Ground, for the rural setting that reminds her of her childhood.
Mike Shina LEED AP, CAPS Home Builder, CGB Mike Shina, LEED AP, CAPS, CGB, Construction Manager
Mike Shina brings the highest level of quality and experience to homes built for Windsong Properties homeowners. Mike graduated Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He is a LEED Accredited Professional (US Green Building Council-Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), and a Certified Graduate Builder (CGB). He enjoys bringing his talent to a forward-thinking company like Windsong, where he is able to build elegant, energy efficient, highly unique and personalized homes. Mike meets home buyers throughout the building process; holding scheduled meetings with buyers during the construction process, including a Pre-Drywall walk-through and a Pre-Closing Orientation. Mike has lived in the north Metro Atlanta area for 18 years. He enjoys outdoor activities from biking to boating with his two sons.
Brian Hester Brian Hester, Builder
One of the most exciting parts of the new home experience is when construction begins on your new home, and having the opportunity to meet the professionals who will work tirelessly to perform each phase – from laying the foundation to the time you turn the key. Brian Hester fills home buyers with confidence, as he brings a 20-year history of new construction, remodeling and home repair experience to Windsong at Seven Hills. Brian also has earned his International Residential Code (IRC) Certification in home inspection, providing him with a unique perspective on the home building process, and ensuring a superior level of quality through every step of construction. When he isn’t on-site at Windsong at Seven Hills, Brian enjoys fishing, wake-boarding and playing volleyball. An avid billiards player, he has been a member of an amateur billiards league for 15 years. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brian has lived in the metro Atlanta area for more than 24 years, and is the proud father of his son, Daniel.
Jeb Gibbs, Finish Manager at Heron Pond for Windsong Properties Jeb Gibbs, Builder
Jeb comes to Windsong with over 8 years of construction experience. His background includes insurance restoration, remodeling and complete home renovation. Jeb’s focus is on maintaining the highest standards of quality while bringing your new home to completion. Jeb brings a unique perspective to the company. As a restoration contractor, he has helped many of his clients through a very difficult construction process, while restoring their homes from flooding and fire damage. An avid outdoorsman, Jeb is also the proud father of a 5 year old girl.
EricJaskiewicz, Assistant Builder at Bel-Aire for Windsong Properties Eric Jaskiewicz, Assistant Builder
Erik Jaskiewicz holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Western Illinois University, and brings a wealth of construction experience, including work on three major projects with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s highway bridge projects.
Prior to joining the Windsong team, Erik called upon his educational minor in manufacturing technology, with work on a variety of projects including gourmet foods, personalization, ProFlowers, and heat press installation & demonstration for the dye-sublimation industry.
He owned and operated a landscaping business, as well, which provided him with the organizational and business skills he uses daily as an Assistant Builder with Windsong.
When he is not building homes, Erik can be found organizing recreational sports programs for children with special needs. Erik works at Windsong’s BelAire community in Powder Springs. Be sure to say hello when you see him on property!
Kris Johnson, Sales Manager at Windsong Kris Johnson, SRES, Sales Manager
As Sales Manager, Kris Johnson works with the sales team and homebuyers to create a superior sales experience for active adults. A graduate of the University of West Georgia, Kris has lived in Northwest Cobb County for more 25 years with her husband and two children. As a resident of Cobb County, Kris can easily convey the benefits of living in a Windsong community in Northwest Atlanta. Working with Active Adult homebuyers, Kris enjoys meeting people and developing a working relationship with folks to make the process from sale through post-closing a positive experience. Holly Leggett, Lifestyle Consultant for Windsong Holly Leggett, SRES, Sales Agent
Holly Leggett brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and client focus to the Windsong Properties team at their Heron Pond community. She is dedicated to help active adults transition into their new quality, elegant, low maintenance dream homes that meet their lives’ changing needs and wants. Bringing over 15 years of involvement in Property Management, Investment Properties, Real Estate and sales, her customers experience an exceptionally comfortable home buying process from home selection to after the closing. Holly has lived through the process of buying a new home four times and looks forward to the privilege of bringing together her experience and all of the Windsong Properties resources to deliver your new home and let you enjoy Heron Pond where “Life’s A Breeze!” Holly has lived in Cherokee County since 1993, raised her 2 children and been involved in many charitable, school and sporting activities. She loves the Badgers and Packers as well as gardening, travel, skiing, reading and investing.
Joyce Schell, Lifestyle Consultant for Windsong Joyce Schell, Sales Professional
Joyce works with home buyers at all of Windsong’s communities. An Active Adult herself, who has lived in the metro Atlanta area for more than two decades, Joyce understands the importance of being close to family, as well as surrounding herself with the people and things that make her happy. She is able to take this first-hand experience and assist home buyers understand the benefit of making their new home in a Windsong community, and helping them plan the next chapter of their lives. Joyce has three grown children and four grandchildren, and looks forward to helping you decide which Windsong community is right for you.
Shelia Frey, Assistant Lifestyle Consultant for Windsong Shelia Frey, Sales Professional
Sheila will help buyers at Serenade as they downsize in size but not luxury and move into a low maintenance lifestyle. Sheila earned her degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University, and has made her career as a Certified Image Consultant. Image goes beyond what you wear but extends to how we live our lives as well, and Sheila walks the talk, as a volunteer at the Women’s Extension and Member of the Cobb Landmarks Historical Society and the Marietta Magnolia Garden Club. She also is a past member of the Junior League of Cobb/Marietta. Sheila’s professional background includes Fashion Contributor to Our Town Magazine, the Marietta Daily Journal, and Best Self Magazine; and she also has spoken at numerous events, including Wellstar’s “Be Your Best You.” An Atlanta native, Sheila is married, and the mother of two grown children. The epitome of “active adult,” Sheila enjoys traveling, riding her bike, gardening, and playing bridge. And her affinity for meeting new people will certainly come in handy at Windsong!
Diane Miller, Assistant Lifestyle Consultant for Windsong Diane Miller, Sales Professional
Real estate professional and interior design specialist Diane Miller joined the Windsong team as Sales Professional at our prestigious Windsong Manor community and is now at Serenade. While living in Florida, Diane founded a home décor business that was chosen by Southern Living as a Preferred Vendor for their 2003 Idea House. She has since provided creative solutions for families and individuals as a New Home Sales & Marketing Specialist with D.R. Horton and Solid Source Realty, and as a leader in Sales, Design and Visual Merchandising for several well-known furnishing companies in North Metro Atlanta. Diane gained first-hand experience as an Empty Nester in 2015, when her daughter earned her Master’s degree from the University of Georgia. A graduate of Texas A&M University, Diane nonetheless has embraced the term, “Go Dawgs!” In addition to interior design, Diane enjoys antiquing, travel, hiking, and finding the perfect pizza! With a flair for design and good conversation, Diane looks forward to showing people how Life’s A Breeze at Windsong.
Denisha Collins-Tolbert, Sales Assistant Denisha Collins-Tolbert, Sales Assistant
Denisha joined Windsong Properties in 2015 as Sales Assistant to two very successful communities: Windsong Manor in Paulding County, and Bel-Aire in West Cobb.
She earned her degree in Criminal Justice from the University of West Florida, but her favorite type of work includes interaction with the public and individuals as a Trainer, Administrative Assistant and Human Resources Assistant. She is adept at presenting ideas and materials in various formats, and is comfortable speaking with people, which makes her a natural fit for her Sales Assistant duties. Denisha had the pleasure of being a stay-at-home mother for eight years, during which she utilized her organizational and communication skills, volunteering as an administrative assistant at her church, where she scheduled events, and created and maintained the church website. She brings her public speaking and presentation experience to her role as Sales Assistant, where she is sure to create a comfortable, inviting atmosphere for new and prospective homeowners.
Daphne Bethencourt, Sales Assistant Daphne Bethencourt, Sales Assistant
Daphne understands all aspects of administration, public relations. Her cheerful disposition and natural conversational abilities make home buyers and visitors feel valued and welcome. Daphne earned her General Studies degree from Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia; then her Business degree from Kings College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She launched her career in the Special Sales arena with Eastern Air Lines in Charlotte, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City, where she spent 13 years honing her skills in customer service and public relations. She relocated to Atlanta, where she spent 14 years managing membership and client relations with Kaiser Permanente (Kaiser Health Plan of Georgia), helping folks feel at-ease about healthcare plan purchases. In 2008, Daphne moved to South Carolina, to help her mother who was in ailing health. During the eight years she lived there, she became a Real Estate Licensee, working with individuals relocating to Columbia and the surrounding area. She also volunteered as a Docent at the South Carolina State Museum, and in the Ticketing/Will-Call office of the Historical Town Theater, as well as with a variety of community organizations. Daphne is the proud mother of two adult daughters, and anticipates adding the role of grandmother in 2016.
