Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States? According to Piedmont Healthcare, 90 percent of women are at risk for this disease. The good news is that knowing your risk can save your life. This American Hearth Month, watch the video as Windsong Sales Agent, Kris Johnson, shares her story. As she discusses in the video, Kris is only 47-years-old, a mother of two and a full-time new home sales agent for Windsong. Working in an industry where more women than men are Realtors, Kris is just one of several female sales agents working at Windsong. Her story hit home to her fellow agents because it could happen to any of them. Now, the team at Windsong is more aware of heart disease and its symptoms in women. Experiencing shortness of breath, tiredness and a burning in her neck, jaw and down her arms, Kris’ symptoms did not stop her in her tracks like a heart attack. Still, they had a major impact on her daily life. After seeing doctors at Piedmont, Kris found out that she had two significant blockages. She was able to be treated and is now on the path of achieving better heart health. “It’s not about age. Just listen to your body," Kris advised. “You know your body better than anybody. You have to be your own best advocate. When your daily life is a little bit off, that’s when it’s time to take action." Heart disease can be prevented. Before you experience symptoms such as Kris, be sure to go red and get screened! For more information, visit www.piedmontred.org.
