These days, everywhere you look there’s a new “stress-relieving” remedy.
What we have to remember is, stress has been a part of humans for as long as there have been humans. And just as the triggers and symptoms of stress are different for everyone, so are the ways of relieving it, or of minimizing our susceptibility.
Although stress has been around forever, people have sought stress relief in some form or fashion, with a focus on mental, physical, and emotional health. In April 1992, Stress Awareness Month was introduced, and it has been an annual focus ever since.
The American Institute of Stress defines stress as “physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension,” which manifests differently for each person. Even the risks differ, although long-term stress is linked to a variety of health concerns, including headaches, sleep disturbances, and chest pains, and can lead to heart attack or stroke.
April’s focus on Stress Awareness is the perfect time to identify stress and take steps to minimize its effects on our bodies and lives.
