An Active Adult Poem, in honor of National Good Neighbor Day, September 28
I walked outside this morning
And a neighbor waved hello
Walking along the sidewalk
And asked if I wanted to go
After a hot, humid summer, nothing helps us breathe a collective sigh of relief than the official arrival of Fall, which falls on September 23 this year.
Those who are familiar with the season in Georgia jokingly say that Fall is like Summer, but with Pumpkin Spice added. That may be true, but the opportunities to enjoy the season include a variety of festivals and other events that are close to home, including the Georgia Apple Festival, just a short drive from Windsong communities.
Over the past decade, as Baby Boomers have reached traditional retirement age, many have decided to go back to work, start a business, earn another degree, or learn a new skill entirely. Sometimes they return to work for financial reasons, but studies reveal that a lot of Boomers experience a loss of identity when they leave the workplace.
And what does one do with all of that free time?
Fall begins with Labor Day weekend, and that is especially true in the South, where college football is the official symbol of the change of seasons.
(A poem, inspired by 'Take Me Home Country Roads," by John Denver)
Almost heaven, north of Atlanta
Blue Ridge Mountains, Chattahoochee River
It's my dream home, so peaceful to me
Luxury active living, here Where Life's A Breeze
It’s been said that every day holds a reason to celebrate, which is especially true for Baby Boomers who either have already retired and moved into their dream home, or who have both their dream home and their retirement in their sights.
At Windsong, we’re especially fond of “Ride Like the Wind Day,” which is celebrated each August 23. We figure it’s a holiday created for folks like us and our family of homeowners, for whom Life’s A Breeze…
Like the Not-So-Big movement, Right-Sizing has become de riguer for Active Adults, as they recognize that retirement is best enjoyed while we’re healthy, active, and able to live in our next-chapter dream home.
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away - Perry Como
Or, if you believe the folklore, you may prefer to make a wish when you see a shooting star.
Either way, you’ll have lots of wishes and very full pockets this weekend, when it’s peak viewing time for the Perseids Meteor Shower in the Northern Hemisphere.
It’s the middle of summer, as you can clearly see from the soaring temperatures on your car’s dashboard or your home’s outdoor thermometer…
Or can you?
The thermometer has reached or exceeded 90 degrees several times in the past week or so, which is normal for Georgia in July and August, but that doesn’t mean you need to be outside in the heat. Taking the proper precautions during summer heat is important to your health and well-being, and are easy to do.
