A Boomer Poem, inspired by “Two of Us” (“On Our Way Home”), by The Beatles (1970)
The two of us looking always, never finding
the right place
One day we were out driving, suddenly smiling
We found it: OUR HOME!
We found our new home
This is our new home
We’re moving home
Lately, we hear a lot about taking time for “self-care.” But it’s far more than a buzz word. By definition, Self-Care means, “the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, particularly during times of stress.”
Experts have identified five areas of focus for Active Adults in terms of self-care:
Lots of sentimental sayings focus on the idea of “home.” While each resonates differently, depending upon where you live, one thing is for certain: we carry with us a piece of each place we’ve called “home,” and those pieces, those feelings, are what we look for when we inhabit our current home.
Let’s look at a few of these ideas about “home”:
Maintaining physical fitness means far more than simply going outside and taking a daily walk. On the flip side, physical fitness doesn’t require you to complete a workout that’s so strenuous that it turns you off of exercise completely.
“Windsong’s mission trickles down even to the happy homeowners. Windsong does, and should, do well because of the quality and care they put into everything they do.”

Summer Days at Windsong
A Boomer Poem, inspired by “Saturday In the Park,” by Chicago (1972)
Summer days on our block
Already the end of July
Neighbors all stop and talk
About how fast the year’s going by.
News flash: It’s HOT outside!
Georgia temperatures have topped 93 degrees several times over the past week, leaving everyone feeling as if they’re about to melt into the sidewalk when they walk to the mailbox or take the dog for a walk.
As Active Adults (who enjoy putting the “active” in that title!), we want to both keep moving and stay fit while avoiding the problems that come from becoming overheated (a host of issues, known collectively as hyperthermia).
While access to college campuses and in-person enrichment courses may be limited right now, opportunities abound for Active Adults to learn a new skill, improve understanding of concepts, conduct research in areas that are of interest to you, and more… and it’s as easy as turning on your computer or television!
YouTube isn’t just an entertainment vehicle. According to the channel’s Trends Dashboard, more than 60 million Active Adults view content on YouTube every month – 4 times more than teens!
As “staying in” becomes more familiar, recreating “date night” treats has become a popular pastime. From baking bread from scratch using an online recipe, to hosting book clubs and game nights via one of a host of online meeting platforms, Active Adults are adapting to new ways to live their best lives via technology!
Hollywood has jumped on the bandwagon, as well, offering straight-to-home options for new releases of blockbuster movies, allowing movie buffs to have dinner (or make their own buttered popcorn) while enjoying first-run films on a variety of platforms, including:
inspired by America the Beautiful, as performed by Ray Charles
Oh beautiful summer afternoon
Enjoying life outside
I love my home, and every room
Is perfectly my style
How fortunate, how wonderful
This place I can call mine
My life’s success is happiness
A joyful life defined.
